Since I was a kid, I've always wanted to write. My first attempt was on an IBM Aptiva 486 that my father bought from a friend. The project? A book about the life of a vampire (which, believe it or not, I still intend to finish someday).

Back then, getting information was difficult. Early 1990s, the internet was nothing more than a rough draft of what it is today. We lived in the era of BBS (which I only learned about years later at a friend's house).

I even remember buying one of those computer magazines that came with a CD promising 8 hours (yes, just 8!) of access to the internet. Spoiler: I never used it. My 14.4kbps modem simply refused to connect.

Writing was an exercise in patience. Need a synonym or a technical term? You had to dive into paper dictionaries or go to a library. It was discouraging.

Fast forward 30 years. Today, information is just a click away. AIs suggest terms and perform complex research in seconds. I looked at this scenario and thought: "Why not now?". And that's how I started writing a new book.

During the writing process, I stumbled upon a concept I had never heard of, but one that blew my mind: the Panopticon.

But what is it exactly?

In short: it's constant surveillance that generates self-control. The concept was created by Jeremy Bentham, who designed a circular prison with a tower in the center. The cells were lit in such a way that the guard could see everything, but the prisoners couldn't see the guard.

Since people never knew if they were being watched at that exact moment, they began to behave well "just in case". Control wasn't through force, but through psychology.

Later, the philosopher Michel Foucault showed that this wasn't just for prisons. He called it panopticism – the logic used in schools, factories, and hospitals to train us to follow rules on our own. You watch yourself because you feel like someone's always watching you.

That's where the spark came from to create this blog. It's my digital watchtower, a space to keep an eye on everything that happens.
